Night of the Demons

Night of the Demons is just full of strangeness, from the curious animated opening credits, to the ridiculous twist ending.

The movie quickly tosses us in with a group of high school teens who have decided that it's a good idea to throw a Halloween party in an old abandoned funeral parlor. Angela (Amelia Kinkade) and Suzanne (Linnea Quigley) organize everything and invite all their friends to come along.

Their party starts off well enough, but before too long they decide to try a seance and hardly even get started before accidentally inviting a demon or two to come out and mess with them. Throughout the course of the night, Angela and Suzanne transform into demons and spread the possession contagion back and forth among the rest of them.

Things quickly get stranger and stranger. It turns that the spirits that possess the two of them haven't been in a human body before and they have a really hard time figuring out what to do with them. Angie lights herself on fire to get warm, Suzanne doesn't seem to know what to do with lipstick, and eventually decides just to put it away... by sticking it inside of her breast...

Pretty much everything that happens from here on out leaves you feeling as baffled as a dog that's just been shown a magic trick.

Linnea Quigley's sexy sex scene here for example.

In the end, only a couple of people make it out. Of course, Judy gets to be one of them, so she'll get to go back home to see many more days of her weird brother hiding out in her closet.

"Wow, bodacious boobies, sis!"

There is a definite Evil Dead flavor to the film, from the sped up, Raimi-esque camera tricks Tenney uses, to the actual makeup and practical effects styles. Overall, Night of the Demons is a lot of fun, and I can't wait to get into the sequels to see how those compare to the original.
